At the grave of Captain R V Rylands, Redoubt Cemetery, Gallipoli, May 2011

The outbreak of the Great War was greeted with scenes of unprecedented patriotism across Britain.  Men rushed to enlist in their thousands, eager to do their bit for King and Country, desperate to avoid missing out on the great adventure.

Nowhere more was this fervour felt than at the public schools of England. All Saints School, Bloxham was no exception and Old Bloxhamists served in all theatres of war, holding every rank from Private to Brigadier General.  Some fell foul of military law, some were decorated for gallantry, some suffered horrific injuries, but all of them did thier bit in some way or another.

Regardless of their rank, background, age the 76 Old Bloxhamists commemorated on this website have one thing in common.

None of the came home.

This is their story.

I first produced this website in 2008, and since then the research has continued, and technology has advanced and as such I felt it was time to create a new website, with a new design and new content.

This is being done around a full time day job, so please bear with me as I am completing this mammoth task in what little free time I have!

Research can be notoriously fickle and when dealing with sources almost 100 years old it is inevitable that some errors will crop up.  If you spot anything that you believe is factually incorrect please email me at mattdixon@bloxhamschoolwardead.co.uk and I will endeavour to make any corrections as soon as I am able to.
